The Christian Alliance of Franklin County was birthed from the vision of a committee that has been meeting every week for more than two years. That vision... for the church, the body of Christ, all of us, no matter what name is over the door of the building we congregate in, to be what God intends us to be... his hands and feet ministering to the sick, the poor, and the hurting... to be the ones that people turn to in time of need.
There are so many people who despair today because of problems and situations going on in their lives... the present seems intolerable, and the future seems to hold no hope. They're held captive by oppression, depression, anxiety and fear. They feel trapped, like there's no way out... there's no hope, no joy, no peace.
It is the words of Jesus Christ that speaks from Luke's Gospel, "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed..." (Luke 4:18). Christ came to preach the gospel to the poor, to preach good news to all those who are destitute of the comforts of this life; to heal the brokenhearted, those who are pressed down by great calamity, or whose hearts are pressed or bruised by the consciousness of sin... to set them at liberty, to free them from this pressure, to give them consolation. He came to proclaim liberty to those who are held captive by anything that enslaves them... sin, sickness, poverty, thoughts of despair, bad situations, problems... freedom from anything that makes one feel as if there is no hope.
THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE in Jesus Christ! He gives us peace and joy in the midst of all life's problems. It's a peace that we can't understand... even in the worst and most difficult of circumstances... we have peace. Philippians 4:6,7 says, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
In all of our endeavors to render humanitarian aid to those in need, it is with the absolute knowledge that only Christ can truly meet the needs of ones heart... to bring about the peace and joy that is so desperately needed, especially during hard and trying times. We can help with physical needs... but it is Christ, and him alone, that can meet the greatest need of all, the salvation of ones soul... salvation that will bring peace and calm to a troubled soul.
It is Jesus Christ that has given us the mandate to help others... to be his hands and feet. ministering to those in need. He is the provider, in every area of life.
